A young Mel with her first dog

About Mel

'Mel has a very quiet attitude with the dogs, but they understand her. She is calm, knowledgeable and patient and I would have no concern in recommending her to anyone who wants the best relationship with their dog.'

– Wendy & Holly the Westie

My name is Melanie (Mel) Thomason, I grew up with animals at home and have continued through life with a passion for them. I qualified as a veterinary nurse in 1994.

I have been an assessor for Pets as Therapy since 2002 and two of my current dogs are pat dogs. I have always had my own dogs at home and have enjoyed training them. Three of my adult dogs have passed the kennel club gold good citizen test, my youngest dog prefers trick training and his videos can be seen on my Facebook page.

I am a member of the Kennel Club accredited instructor scheme (awaiting full accreditation). I became a full member of the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (Membership No. 2056) in April 2014 after a full weekend of practical assessments and theory questioning. I am a proud member of the PPG which is the Association for Force Free Pet Professionals. In April 2015 I qualified as a Force Free Trick Trainer with the IMDT, and hope to bring more tricks into all aspects of training.

Rewarding Paws is an affiliated club with Talking Dogs Rally (Membership No. TDRC-005), and this sport is incorporated into classes. I enjoy helping people to develop a great bond with their dog, also to be responsible and knowledgeable owners.

I am fully insured and CRB checked. I have a good understanding of the problems you may be experiencing with your dogs and really enjoy helping people to turn them round for the better of all concerned. I have owned and trained a vast amount of different breeds and am always happy to work with any of them again.

I am also an authorised dealer for Lupine collars, leads and harnesses from Collarways.
